Nas - HIP HOP is DEAD

Nas has a new CD that based it's title on the fact that Hip hop is now changed because of "Lil John" the ATL sound and the southern snap music.
Nas scored his third No. 1 on The Billboard 200 this week with his eighth studio set, "Hip Hop Is Dead." The Def Jam effort moved 355,000 copies last week in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Nas is married to Kelis.

Following closely behind, the soundtrack to Disney's "Hannah Montana" climbs 3-2 in its ninth week on the chart with 349,000, a 28% sales boost. The Sony BMG Strategic Marketing Group/EMI/Universal/Zomba hits compilation "NOW 23" also moves up, 4-3, with 313,000 (+33%).

Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" (Arista/Arista Nashville) ascends 6-4 in its 58th week on the chart, moving 292,000 with a 47% surge. Sliding up 8-5, the Beatles' "Love" (Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol) shifted 282,000, a sales increase of 58%.

Bow Wow's "The Price of Fame" (Columbia) enters the chart at No. 6 with 262,000. It is the rapper's third-best charting week, as his 2003 effort "Unleashed" and 2005's "Wanted" both debuted at No. 3.

Justin Timberlake's Jive album "FutureSex/LoveSounds" re-enters the top tier, rocketing 22-9 with a 98% sales increase to 230,000. Akon's "Konvicted" zooms 16-10 on a 60% increase to 227,000.

Overall, album sales are up 34% from last week's count and are down 6% compared to the same week a year ago at 31.24 million units. Sales for 2006 are down 4.7% compared to 2005 at 574 million units.

Rest in peace to "The Godfather of soul"

James Brown didn't play music. He didn't make music. He invented it.

Brown, the pioneering rock-soul-funkmeister who has rung every note out of every one of his classic hits, from "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" to "I Got You (I Feel Good)," died today on Christmas at a hospital in Atlanta.
Brown was hospitalized Sunday with pneumonia, his management company said. The entertainer was said to have passed away at about 1:45 a.m. Monday at age 73.

According to Intrigue Music's Website, Brown was scheduled to perform a concert at the Count Basie Theater in New Jersey next weekend—he didn't come by his nickname, the Hardest Working Man in Show Business, cheaply.

The Godfather of Soul was another of Brown's nicknames. He didn't come by that one cheaply, either.

"Music is usually on the two and four, but I changed it to the one and three," Brown told E! Online in 2000. "I invented that beat."

Brown put his signature beat to use in "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine," "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," "The Payback," and "Say It Loud (I'm Black and I'm Proud)," to reel off four more of his 100-plus hits on the R&B charts, most of which made Billboard's overall singles chart, too.

With legend status came the spoils: the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, presented in 1992; the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award, presented in 1993; and the Kennedy Center Honor, presented in 2003, the same year as his 70th birthday.
One of Brown's biggest honors comes without a plaque or trophy—only with the respect of rappers, who regarded the performer as a forefather of their genre.

radio-friendly hits began in the mid 1960s with "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," for which he won the first of his two competitive Grammys, and continued with nary an interruption until the mid 1970s. Brown was too busy making records and donning capes in concert to do much else but music. Still, he made his big-screen mark as the Reverend Cleophus James in 1980's The Blues Brothers and the smash-up comedy's 1998 sequel, The Blues Brothers 2000.

In 1985, James Brown stormed back up the charts with a cut written for and performed in Rocky IV, "Living in America." The song brought Brown his second competitive Grammy.

BEYONCE NEWS

Guess who needs to get a new weave master?
Look at Beyonce's passport closely she is not the 23-25 age that everyone thinks ,the conclusion is that Beyoncé's real age is 30 - and not 25 as her bio insists . Let's look at the evidence: Star Search was a very popular show which ran from 1983 to 1995. If you do a Google search for Beyoncé + Star Search, you will see that Beyoncé was on that show (with her then group Girl Tyme) in 1983. If she was born in 1981 she would have been 2 years old when she appeared on the show!. That means she was actually 7 or 8 then (in 83) and is 30 now! more evidence is from friends and schoolmates of Beyoncé when she was a schoolgirl in Texas, they are all age 29 toe early 30's and they say she is 30. By the way most stars do this!

Mary J Blige QUEEN of the BILLBOARD AWARDS

Mary J. Blige won big at this year's Billboard Music Awards as her chart-topping comeback album "The Breakthrough" landed the R&B diva a leading nine honors.

Among the awards the 35-year-old singer claimed Monday night were R&B/Hip-Hop artist of the year, female R&B artist of the year and R&B/Hip-Hop album of the year.
"The Breakthrough" shot to No. 1 after it debuted on the Billboard charts in December 2005 and has sold 2.6 million copies since.

Chris Brown, a 17-year-old r/b singer who calls his music "Hip-Hop with a swagger," won new artist of the year, male of artist of the year and artist of the year awards.

Newcomers Rihanna and idol-turned-country star Carrie Underwood also walked away with high honors. The 18-year-old from Barbados edged out Blige and Beyonce for the top songstress honor.

The telecast did not, however, feature Tinseltown's duo du jour — heiress Paris Hilton and mom-gone-wild, Britney Spears. After their recent binge of late-night partying, it was reported that the new best friends would be co-hosting the show. But neither appeared and the show went on without a host, a lineup of presenters filling in to move things along.

Atlanta rapper T.I. took home rap artist of the year and rap album of the year for his fourth solo album, "King," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard albums chart in March.

Canadian rockers Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons," won rock album of the year and artist-duo/group of the year. The band closed the show jamming to "Looking for some Touch," with Kid Rock and ZZ Top.

Crooner Tony Bennett was honored with the Billboard Century Award, a lifetime achievement award.

The Billboard Awards are given to the year's chart-topping artists. Winners are determined by the magazine's year-end chart listings, which are based on record sales and airplay.

Eddie Murphy & Tracy Edmonds Dating

Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds, a film producer and the ex-wife of singer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, are dating. This comes after Ed broke up with Mel B from the "Spice Girls", which he was dating soon after his divorce from ex-wife nicole. Eddie and Tracey have been seeing each other "for about a month and a half," Edmonds said at the New York premiere of Dreamgirls, which she attended with Murphy on Monday. When asked if she was happy she smiled and said, "Yes, very happy. We're having fun." Previously, Murphy had been seeing former Spice Girl, Melanie Brown. A rep for the comedian said, "We do not comment on Mr. Murphy's personal life."

Edmonds split from "Babyface" in October 2005 after 13 years together.
