AMERICAN IDOL

In a futile attempt to salvage its ratings, American Idol is making a few minor adjustments this coming season.
These adjustments are scheduled to be announced later this week however they’ve already been leaked via an AI fansite which somehow got a hold of a production memo.
Without changing too much of the show’s format - which initially earned it top ratings - AI will be making a minor shift toward “real talent.”
- There will be fewer audition rounds (and thusly, less of Simon’s sarcasm) and more Hollywood episodes, to shift the emphasis on “aspirational” singers, rather than attention-hungry whores or those inflicted with “I think I can sing” syndrome.
- The semifinalist round will be expanded to 36 contestants instead of the usual 24.
- Return of the second chance “wild card” round.
- Idol Gives Back has been canceled for next year, but will return in the 9th season as an every-other-year event.
I hope this gives the show the kick it needs to revive its ratings!

CHRIS BROWN Arist of the YEAR

Billboard names Chris Brown top artist

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK - The accolades keep coming for Chris Brown - this time, he's been named Billboard's top artist of 2008.

"It's bigger than what I can ever imagine. It's unexpected totally, so it's a surprise," Brown said in an interview Thursday. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise for Brown. He not only nabbed the Billboard honour in 2006, he had a great '08, with solo hits like "With You" and "Forever" as well as successful collaborations, like the Jordin Sparks duet "No Air." Last month, he won three awards at the American Music Awards, including artist of the year.

But the 18-year-old Brown says he's still not used to all the accolades.

"I've had a good year but I still feel like a little insecure in those parts. I'm like, 'There's little ol' me getting an award' - that's incredible," he said.

The artist's rankings are determined by album sales as well as digital downloads, radio airplay and Internet streams. The No. 2 artist was Lil Wayne, who had a huge year thanks to hits like "A Milli" and "Lollipop"; No. 3 on the list was Rihanna, whose hits included "Take A Bow" and "Disturbia," which was co-written by boyfriend Brown.

Rounding out the top five were Alicia Keys and Taylor Swift.

Billboard named Flo Rida's "Low" as the year's top song, followed by Leona Lewis "Bleeding Love," Alicia Keys' "No One," Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" and "Apologize" by Timbaland featuring OneRepublic. Brown had three songs in the top 10: "With You," "Forever" and "No Air" with Sparks.

Pacman sends De La Hoya into retirement?

LAS VEGAS -- The end for Oscar De La Hoya on this night came as he sat in the corner after the eighth round, his left eye swollen shut and his face bruised by punches Manny Pacquiao seemed able to land almost at will.

The decision to call it a night was easy. The decision to call it a career may be a lot tougher.

"My heart still wants to fight, that's for sure," De La Hoya said. "But when your physical doesn't respond, what can you do? I have to be smart and make sure I think about my future plans."

Pacquiao gave De La Hoya a lot to think about by beating and battering him around the ring for eight rounds Saturday night before De La Hoya declined to answer the bell for the ninth round. The domination was shocking enough, but the fact that it came at the hands of a fighter who just nine months earlier had been fighting at 129 pounds had to be even more troubling for De La Hoya and his legions of fans.

De La Hoya absorbed such a beating that he was taken to a hospital afterwards for what was described as a precautionary examination. The most popular fighter of his generation won just one round on one ringside scorecard and none on the other two against a smaller opponent who fought bigger than him from the opening bell on.

De La Hoya's left eye was swollen shut as he sat on his stool after the eighth round and the ring doctor, referee and his cornermen discussed his condition. De La Hoya offered no complaints when his corner decided he had enough, getting up from his stool and walking to the center of the ring to congratulate the victor.

"He's just a great fighter," De La Hoya said. "I have nothing bad to say about him. He prepared like a true champion."

Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 knockouts) came up two weight classes to fight for his biggest purse ever, while De La Hoya dropped down to meet him at 147 pounds. Though De La Hoya (39-6) towered over Pacquiao and had a big reach advantage over him, Pacquiao had no trouble getting inside what few jabs De La Hoya threw to land his shots.

Pacquiao was credited with landing 224 of 585 punches to just 83 of 402 for De La Hoya.

De La Hoya not only dropped down to fight for the first time at 147 pounds in seven years, but actually came into the ring unofficially weighing less than Pacquiao. Both fighters got on scales in their dressing rooms and De La Hoya was 147 while Pacquiao was 148 and a half.

Pacquiao will earn a guaranteed $11 million, while De La Hoya was expected to make at least twice that by the time all the pay-per-view revenues are totaled up.

Dipset Chairmen Jim Jones and his Fresh NYC Play

Hip Hop artist JIM JONES' PLAY TAKES NY BY STORM

A few people I know went to the Jim Jones play last night. I heard Dame Dash was partly behind this masterful move in marketing music. I heard it was good. Peep the video .

I was looking at the twitter tweets of some people and they said Jim has started a new slang where he substitutes the N-Word for "My Obama." So now instead of saying "what up my n---a?" you would say, "What up, my Obama?" Obama wasn't at the play, but Dr. Ben Chavis was there as the minister and also the jail warden.

Jim's CD is called "Pray For Reign," but I heard all they got was rain. It rained all night and day in NYC.
