GEORGE LUCAS NEW 'STAR WARS' MOVIE Disney Buys Lucasfilm for $4 Bil

The Walt Disney Company, in a move that gives it a commanding position in the world of fantasy movies, said Tuesday it had agreed to acquire Lucasfilm from its founder, George Lucas, for $4.05 billion in stock and cash.

The sale provides a corporate home for a private company that grew from Mr. Lucas’s hugely successful “Star Wars” movie series, and became an enduring force in the creation of effects-driven science fiction entertainment for large and small screens. Mr. Lucas, who is 68 years old, had already announced he would step down from day-to-day operation of the company.
Combined with the purchase of Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion in 2009 and of Pixar Animation Studios for $7.4 billion in 2006, the acquisition solidifies Disney’s status as a leader in animation and superhero films. And it strengthens the legacy of Robert A. Iger, Disney’s chief executive, who has become known for his aggressive expansion of the company since taking charge in 2005.
Mr. Iger is set to step down as chief executive in March 2015, but will remain with Disney in a lesser role under an employment deal he reached with Disney last year.
Like the Marvel acquisition, the Lucasfilm purchase caught Hollywood and Wall Street by surprise. It was announced on Tuesday afternoon, while the New York Stock Exchange was closed because of Hurricane Sandy.
In a hastily convened conference call with investors late Tuesday, Mr. Iger said Disney planned to revive the Star Wars franchise and release a seventh feature film in the series in 2015, with new films coming every two or three years thereafter. Mr. Lucas will be a consultant on the film projects, Mr. Iger said.
Mr. Iger said Disney acquired a detailed treatment for the next three “Star Wars” films as part of the acquisition. He noted that the last film in the series, “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith,” was released in 2005, a period that he said has created “pent-up demand.”
Jay Rasulo, the company’s chief financial officer, said Disney’s financial calculations in agreeing to purchase Lucasfilm were driven almost entirely by the potential of the “Star Wars” series, which already has a place in the Disney theme parks. Lynne Hale, a spokeswoman for Mr. Lucas, said he was on a flight back to San Francisco from Los Angeles and could not immediately be reached. “It’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers,” Mr. Lucas said in a statement.
The companies said Disney would pay approximately half of the purchase price in cash, and would issue about 40 million shares of stock to cover the balance when the deal closes. Mr. Rasulo said Disney expects within two years to repurchase those shares. Lucasfilm, he said, should begin enhancing Disney’s earnings by 2015.
With the acquisition, Disney will acquire Lucasfilm’s live-action production business, along with its Industrial Light & Magic effects business, its Skywalker Sound audio operation and its consumer products unit, among other things. Ms. Hale noted that Mr. Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch and other physical properties in Marin County, Calif., were not part of the deal, and would remain with Mr. Lucas.
Kathleen Kennedy, a longtime associate of Steven Spielberg who recently agreed to become co-chairwoman of Lucasfilm, will now be its president, reporting to Alan F. Horn, the chairman of Disney’s movie studio.
Lucasfilm is based in San Francisco, and now, in combination with Pixar — which operates across the San Francisco Bay in Emeryville — it will give Disney, based in Burbank, a major presence in Northern California.
After the release of the first “Star Wars” film in 1977, Mr. Lucas’s Industrial Light & Magic took the lead in developing effects technologies that were used in a generation of science fiction and fantasy films. Eventually, other companies, including Weta Digital, a New Zealand company co-owned by the filmmaker Peter Jackson, rose to prominence in that field.
Asked about the future of Industrial Light & Magic, Mr. Iger said: “Our current thinking is we would let it remain as is.” In a later interview, Mr. Iger said Disney would be prudent in handling the Lucas operations, but was also mindful of the need to “reap the value” it sees there.
Along with “Star Wars” and its many iterations on movie screens, in television programming, in video games and elsewhere, Mr. Lucas has been a partner in the “Indiana Jones” series, and, occasionally, in an unrelated film, like “Willow,” though Disney executives said they were not relying on those films for future profit.
Mr. Rasulo told analysts that Lucasfilm’s consumer products licensing revenue, about $215 million this year, is roughly comparable to the amount of licensing revenue Marvel had when Disney bought it three years ago.

Serena Williams is the BEST!

Serena is BACK!
(AP) Serena Williams won her fifth Wimbledon title on Saturday, steadying herself after a mid-match wobble to defeat first-time finalist Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 for her 14th Grand Slam title. It was Serena's first major title since suffering a severe foot injury and pulmonary embolism. She became the first woman over 30 to win a major title since Martina Navratilova hoisted the Rosewater Dish in 1990. Radwanska failed in her bid to get to No. 1 and become the first major winner from Poland. She fell out of the match early, getting broken in her first two service games and barely avoiding a first-set bagel. Radwanska hung tough in the second set after a brief rain delay. The No. 3 seed battled back from a break down to even the set at 4-4 with the benefit of a poor line call. With Serena shell-shocked from the quick comeback, Radwanska stormed to a 7-5 win. The momentum shifted back just as quick. Serena steadied her nerves, kept up her powerful serve and earned an early break in the third. Her serve was almost untouchable. She had 102 aces for the tournament, a ladies record. The women with the second, third and fourth most aces in the tournament had 99 combined. [Related: Venus Williams gives sister Serena advice in the middle of the Wimbledon final] Serena's dominant play on Sunday continued a stellar run of play throughout the final week of the tournament. Serena broke a Wimbledon record for aces in her fourth-round win and then broke her own record three days later. In her final three matches, Serena played the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 seeds. She lost a total of 21 (at 4-3 in third) games en route to the title. The dominant final stretch was especially impressive considering her slow start at the All England Club. She was pushed to three sets in the third and fourth round against No. 25 Jie Zheng and unseeded Yaroslava Shvedova. Against Zheng, Serena needed a 9-7 third set to advance. Serena and her sister Venus have combined to win 10 of the past 13 Wimbledons. The sisters play later on Saturday for their fifth Wimbledon doubles title.

2012 Billboard Music Award nominations lack diversity

It’s that time of year again when music artists get rewarded for their success on the Billboard charts. The 2012 Billboard Music Awards aired live May 20 from The MGM Grand in Las Vegas. “Modern Family” stars Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell hosted the tribute- and performance-filled event.
Courtesy Huffington Post
R&B star Usher was among the many performers at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, which took place on Sunday, May 20 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Bowen and Burrell kicked off the show with music video spoofs. Once it was down to business, they paid tribute to the most recent loss in the music industry, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, who died earlier that day.
The first act of the night was LMFAO, performing a medley of hits that included “Party Rock Anthem” (winning them the Hot 100 Song of the Year and the Duo/Group award), “Sorry for Party Rockin’” and “Sexy and I Know It.”
The performances were dance-heavy but a bit disappointing. While one would assume that artists would showcase their talents, lip-syncing seemed to be a common theme. One of the alleged lip-syncers was Justin Bieber, who won Social Artist of the Year, after spending 50 weeks on Billboard’s Social 50 chart. His mostly lip-synced performance of “Boyfriend” was backed up with dancing and an array of neon lights. Other seemingly lip-synced performances included Chris Brown with “Turn Up the Music” and Usher’s “Scream.”
Luckily, powerhouses Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Linkin Park, Katy Perry and even Nelly Furtado (who’s been off the pop radar for a while) all rocked the show with their new hit singles. Carly Rae Jepsen also made her big debut performance with the bubblegum pop hit “Call Me, Maybe.”
Aside from the new hits, many tributes were made after Gibb’s. After Wiz Khalifa received the New Artist award from Miley Cyrus, he paid his respects to Adam Yauch, also known as MCA, of the Beastie Boys. Cee Lo Green and Goodie Mob performed “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” in tribute to Yauch.
Though not all of the performance was shown, Natasha Bedingfield gave tribute to the late Donna Summer by singing “Last Dance.” Lastly, Whoopi Goldberg opened up the tribute to Whitney Houston with a few words. John Legend sang “Greatest Love of All,” leading to Jordin Sparks belting out the legend’s signature ballad, “I Will Always Love You.” Goldberg presented Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and sister-in-law, Pat Houston, with the Billboard Millennium Award on the late singer’s behalf.
Dominating the awards were Adele, who won 12 awards, and LMFAO, who won six.
The nominees seemed to lack diversity. Top Rock Artist and Top Alternative Artist, both won by Coldplay, had the same nominees. Adele, Lady Gaga (who dominated the dance categories) and LMFAO were each nominated twice in a category that they won.
Additionally, some artists seemed to be misplaced in categories. Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” gave her the award for Top Alternative Song and was nominated in Top Rock Song alongside “Someone Like You.” Last time I checked, Adele’s music wasn’t anything close to being rock.
A few deserving awards were also given. Lisa Marie Presley presented the Spotlight Award to Katy Perry for her five No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 from her album “Teenage Dream,” a feat previously accomplished only by Michael Jackson with “Thriller.” Zooey Deschanel recognized Taylor Swift’s success since the launch of her career by presenting her with Billboard’s Woman of the Year trophy.
Closing the show, Alicia Keys handed Stevie Wonder the Billboard’s Icon Award after a duo medley of his hits. Keys also performed “Empire State of Mind” for Wonder’s birthday.
Stevie went on to give a speech asking for world peace, singing a new song titled “Join Our Love” and rolling the credits with “Superstition.”

"The Avengers" sets ALL Time Box office Record

The Disney and Marvel Studios tentpole makes history in nabbing the biggest opening of all time in North America; globally "Avengers" has earned a massive $641.8 million in 12 days. Joss Whedon's The Avengers has set a new bar in opening to a walloping $200.3 million at the domestic box office, the largest debut ever and kicking of summer 2012 in high style. The Avengers -- marking a major victory for Disney and Marvel Studios -- easily dethroned Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which opened to $169.2 million last summer, then the largest number in history. Overseas, where Avengers opened a week ago, the tentpole has now earned $441.5 million for a stunning worldwide total of $641.8 million -- already surpassing the lifetime totals of Captain America: The First Avenger ($364 million), Thor ($449 million), Iron Man ($585 million) and Iron Man 2 ($624 million). The 3D tentpole is now positioned to reach $1 billion in global grosses. Among other records, Avengers is the first film in history to cross $200 million in only three days of play at the domestic box office. It also scored the biggest Saturday gross of all time in earning $69.7 million. "It's been a fantastic weekend on every single front," Disney executive vice president of distribution Dave Hollis said. Hollis said the slim 13 percent drop from Friday to Saturday reflects great word of mouth, as well as the fact that all segments of the audience are turning out, including families. Roughly 52 percent saw it in 3D. The tentpole played evenly in terms of age, with 50 percent of the audience under the the age of 25 and 50 percent over. Couples made up 55 percent, families 24 percent and teens 21 percent. Males represented 60 percent of the audience. Avengers -- which assembles marquee Marvel superhero characters Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) -- earned an A+ CinemaScore. IMAX theaters reported record business, generating north of $15 million in ticket sales domestically to tie with Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the biggest opening weekend in the circuit's history. IMAX expects to finish the weekend with a worldwideume of $31.2 million.

Repubs are in-fighting

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Republicans should give President Barack Obama another term in office if he (Santorum) doesn’t win the GOP nomination over frontrunner Mitt Romney. “You win by giving people a choice,” Santorum said during a campaign stop in Texas. “You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there.” Comparing Romney to an Etch-a-Sketch toy, Santorum continued: “If they’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with [Obama] instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate for the future.” Santorum has said that Romney’s political views change often and can be erased like the shake of an Etch-a-Sketch toy. Romney, who won the Illinois primary on Tuesday, issued a statement Thursday expressing indignation at the fact “that Rick Santorum would rather have Barack Obama as president than a Republican.” Romney added: “Any of the Republicans running would be better than President Obama and his record of failure.”

Taylor Swift-# 1 on Billboard Money Makers list

Taylor Swift is No. 1 again: The singer is the top act on Billboard's "Money Makers" list.
Swift earned more than $35 million in 2011, according to the Billboard list released Friday. U2 was second with $32 million. Kenny Chesney, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne rounded out the top 5.
Artists' rankings were based on U.S. income sources from tours, albums sales and publishing royalties. Billboard said in a press release that it didn't factor in "sponsorships, merchandise sales or synchronization deals."
Adele was tenth on the list. Though she cancelled most of her U.S. tour due to issues with her vocal cords, her album "21" sold more than 5 million units in 2011. Including sales from this year, "21" has sold nearly 8 million copies.

Swift has had a banner year, winning multiple awards at national ceremonies and scoring Billboard's "Woman of the Year" honors.

Women and Corporations lash out at Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh, conservative radio talk show host, anti -american (since he bashes the president every day) hate-monger and nation divider ,attempted to silence women’s voices in the public square through sexual shaming. The early church did the same thing to Mary Magdalene, sexually shaming her in the 6th century, mistakenly calling her a prostitute, and effectively undercutting her spiritual authority.
But today, women are not Mary Magdalene, demeaned by church authority and made into the poster woman for the repentant prostitute. Today, women have fought back against Limbaugh’s sexual shaming and they are winning.
After Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown University law student and articulate spokeswoman for women’s reproductive health care, a “slut” and a “prostitute,” and then worse, a growing firestorm of social media driven protest pushed many of Limbaugh’s advertisers away; Limbaugh has been dropped by at least seven advertisers at last count. A Facebook page has been leading the boycott, and the Twitter hashtag, #StandwithSandra, is increasing in use. Reports say, Rush by the way, is a drug addict and drug smuggler ,so why is anybody listening to this hateful drugged up man ?

Good Deeds is number 2 at the box office

Director/playwright Tyler Perry’s latest movie ‘Good Deeds‘ soared to #2 behind ‘Act of Valor‘ at the box office this weekend. ‘Good Deeds’ earned a respectable $15,583,924 on 2,132 screens, while ‘Act of Valor‘ brought in $24,476,632 — on ? more screens than ‘Deeds’ was shown on.
Good Deeds‘ is about an anal-retentive, wealthy businessman, Wesley Deeds (Perry), trying to ‘save’ an exotic, LSLH cleaning woman (Thandie Newton) who works for his computer software firm.
Wesley Deeds is a hard-working, compassionate man who looks out for his narcissistic brother, Walter (Brian White), despite the fact that Walter sabotages his every move.
Deeds is so attentive to details that his daily routine can easily be predicted by his live-in fiancee, Natalie (Gabrielle Union).
Union turns in a wonderful performance as the understanding, submissive girlfriend who makes breakfast for her man every morning, while allowing him to go about his day without “checking in” with her (because she trusts him not to break from his routine). The warm, beautiful Natalie is every  man’s dream.

Whitney Houston -why was I at the Beverly Hilton hotel ?

if you have followed my little blog since 2005, you would know entertainment is a big part of my life and not much excites me........I am not a fan of celebrities , as I consider myself a part of the entertainment field as a manager,producer,film-maker and agent . However I still wonder why two things happened to me and my wife , the weekend Whitney Houston died ,and I never even  got to meet her.

1. Why was I at the hotel when the first police cars came on the scene oblivious to what they were responding too? (I was there to pick up my credentials to the clive davis party saturday afternoon at 3pm and told my wife something strange was going on there ,on the low ...quietly)

2. Why did pandora music suddenly  load and start playing  donnie mcclurkin gospel music on my idle cell phone  as I passed the the side of the building where I had seen a fire-truck on the side of the hotel where whitney's room was ? after she had passed........I have since found out she adored donnine mcclurkin and his music, and he sang at her homegoing procession.
